Overview
This policy describes Gloam ("the app"), listed on the App Store as Gloam: Daily Journal. Gloam is a daily micro-journal for iOS. Journal entries, mood data, photo attachments, and preferences are stored on your device using SwiftData and UserDefaults. There are no user accounts, no cloud storage for journal data, no ads, no tracking, and no separate app analytics.
Gloam is developed and operated by TheChosenVictor LLC ("we," "us," "our"). Victor Solano owns TheChosenVictor LLC.
Data Stored on Device
Gloam stores the following data entirely on your device. None of this data is uploaded, transmitted, or accessible to anyone other than you.
Journal Entries
Each entry includes your written text, the date, the prompt you were shown, and timestamps. Entries are stored in an on-device database (SwiftData) within the app's sandboxed container.
Mood Data
Mood selections (such as "Peaceful," "Grateful," or "Anxious") are stored alongside each journal entry in the same on-device database.
Photo Attachments (Optional Access)
Users with optional access can attach photos to entries. Photos are stored in the app's sandboxed container on your device. They are not encrypted separately but are protected by iOS data protection.
App Preferences
Settings such as reminder time, onboarding state, and purchase status are stored in UserDefaults on your device.
No Cloud Sync or App-Data Backend
Gloam does not upload your journal entries, mood data, prompts, photos, or app preferences to the cloud. There is no user account system, journal sync, developer network client, CloudKit integration, app-owned telemetry, analytics SDK, advertising SDK, crash-reporting SDK, or App Tracking Transparency prompt. Your journal exists only on your device. The public website support form uses the separate support path described below.
Advertising and Tracking
Gloam does not show advertising of any kind. It does not include analytics SDKs, third-party advertising SDKs, consent SDKs, or a system tracking prompt.
Journal entries, mood selections, prompts, and photo attachments are not sold, shared with advertisers, or used for cross-app tracking.
Photo Library Access
When you attach a photo to an entry (an optional-access feature), Gloam uses Apple's system photo picker. You select the specific photos you want to attach, and Gloam only receives those photos. It does not use the camera and never gains access to your full photo library. Attached photos are stored only within the app's sandboxed container on your device.
Notifications
Gloam can send a local notification to remind you to journal each evening. Notifications are scheduled entirely on your device. No notification data is sent to any server. You can disable reminders at any time in the app's settings or in iOS Settings.
In-App Purchases
Purchases are handled by Apple via StoreKit. Gloam does not process payment cards or billing credentials directly. StoreKit state remains on-device. No receipts are sent to developer-controlled servers.
Support and Feedback
In-App Bug Reports
If you choose Settings > Report Bug, Gloam opens your mail app with a localized, pre-send disclosure. You decide what to write and whether to send it. The app does not automatically attach journal text, moods, prompts, photos, app version, iOS version, device model, entry count, purchase status, or other diagnostics.
An email can contain personal or journal information if you choose to put it in the email. We receive nothing unless you send it. Current App Store privacy disclosures are controlled by Apple and should be reviewed on the store listing before download.
Website Support Form
If you use the public website support form, we receive the app name, category, message, submission source, timestamp, and a one-way hash of your IP address. Your email address and device information are optional. The raw IP address is processed in memory for rate limiting and is not stored in the feedback record. The submission is stored in our support database and routed through Resend to the relevant support inbox. It does not include journal entries, mood data, prompts, or photos unless you choose to type that information into the message.
Data We Do Not Collect Without Your Action
Outside information you choose to send through support, Gloam does not collect or request:
- Your name, email address, or phone number
- Your precise GPS location
- Your contacts, calendar, or health data
- Browsing or search history
- The text of your journal entries, mood selections, prompts, or photo attachments
- Automatic crash logs, telemetry, or product analytics from Gloam itself
Third-Party Services

Data Storage Summary
| Storage | What is stored |
|---|---|
| SwiftData | Journal entries, mood data, photo attachments, app settings |
| UserDefaults | Preferences, onboarding state, and local StoreKit state (CA92.1 required-reason API only) |
All data resides within the app's sandboxed container, which is protected by iOS data protection.
Data Retention
- On-device journal data is retained until you explicitly delete it or uninstall the app.
- StoreKit purchase records are retained by Apple per their policies.
- Support emails and website submissions remain in the relevant inbox or support database until we delete them or you request deletion.
Data Deletion
You can delete individual journal entries from the Today screen or from the timeline view; both ask you to confirm first. Uninstalling Gloam removes all app data from your device, including all journal entries, mood data, photo attachments, and preferences. This action is irreversible.
Your Rights
For All Users
You may:
- Access your data by viewing your journal entries and settings within the app.
- Delete your data by removing individual entries or uninstalling the app.
- Export your data (optional-access feature) as a plain text file.
- Choose which photos to share each time you attach one, using Apple's system photo picker.
European Economic Area (GDPR)
If you are located in the EEA, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:
- Right to access (Art. 15): request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Right to rectification (Art. 16): request correction of inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure (Art. 17): request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Right to restrict processing (Art. 18): request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability (Art. 20): request a machine-readable copy of your data.
- Right to object (Art. 21): object to processing of your data for certain purposes.
- Right to withdraw consent (Art. 7): photo attachment is optional and uses Apple's system photo picker, so Gloam holds no standing camera or photo-library permission to withdraw; you choose whether to attach a photo each time.
Since Gloam stores journal data locally on your device with no account or journal-data backend, you already have direct control over that data. Use the export feature to obtain a copy, or uninstall the app to exercise your right to erasure. Contact us to exercise rights related to a support submission.
TheChosenVictor LLC acts as the data controller for Gloam. You may contact us at [email protected] for any GDPR-related requests.
Data Protection Contact: TheChosenVictor LLC handles privacy requests for this app. A separate Data Protection Officer is not designated for the scale and nature of the processing described here. For all data protection inquiries, contact [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
California (CCPA)

- Right to know: what personal information is collected and how it is used.
- Right to delete: request deletion of your personal information.
- Right to opt-out of sale/sharing: opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination: equal service regardless of whether you exercise your privacy rights.
Gloam does not sell or share your journal data or app-local content for advertising. It does not collect advertising identifiers and does not perform cross-app tracking.
To exercise any CCPA rights, contact us at [email protected].
Children's Privacy
Gloam is rated 4+ on the App Store and is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect journal content or app-local personal information from children. Journal entries, mood selections, prompts, and photo attachments are not transmitted off the device.
